The separation of Borderlands developer from Embriser has been revealed
Gearbox, the creator of the Borderlands series of games, will probably be separated from Embriser Group.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg Media recently reported that Saber Interactive will be spun off from Embracer Group and taken private by an investment group for $500 million. But there is a possibility that another developer will follow the same path.
In response to a similar tweet about Gearbox's departure, Borderlands series creator Jason Schreier wrote of Ambrisser: "Stay tuned." In September 2023, reports indicated that Ambrisser plans to sell the gearbox after canceling the $2 billion deal. This lack of agreement caused many adjustments and the closure of several studios. An email from Dan Hoyt , Gearbox's senior communications officer, also mentioned the possibility of the company becoming independent.
Later, Jason Schreier revealed that there was also the possibility of the independent studio Volition, the developer of the Saints Row games, but this deal did not go anywhere. This studio was one of the most famous developers that was shut down by Embriser Group; However, some of its employees founded a studio called Shapeshifter Games.
Anyway, for now, we have to wait for official news from Gearbox or Embracer and see if the Borderlands developer will become independent or not.
