The developer of Disco Elysium has canceled its new game
Apparently, ZA/UM Studio, the creator of the acclaimed game Disco Elysium, has canceled its new project and laid off some of its employees.
GLHF Media recently claimed in a new report that ZA/UM Studio, the developer of the role-playing game Disco Elysium, has laid off 24 employees (equivalent to 25% of its total workforce). The report states that the development of the indie studio's new project, codenamed X7, has been canceled at the same time that the number of employees has been reduced, and it seems that the game needed one to two years more time to complete development.
Also, a new statement has apparently been sent to employees by Ilmar Campos , CEO of ZA/UM Studios. "Despite the determined efforts of the X7 management and organizing team over the past eight months, I have made the difficult decision to cancel the X7 project after consultation with the management team," the statement read. Although this decision does not suspend the P1 project, unfortunately it will most likely result in the dismissal of studio staff. Following the cancellation of X7 we are looking to make changes to our team to support the remaining two games. "These reforms will almost certainly result in layoffs affecting most of the X7 development team, sub-teams and our other projects."
The report states that the studio is still working on two projects under development, codenamed C4 and M0. Media Insider Gaming reached out to ZA/UM Studios to confirm the report and for official comment, but has yet to hear back. Currently, Disco Elysium is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X platforms. The Xbox Series S can be experienced.
